Dear Killian Senior High Class of 1970, March 16, 2020
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, inquiries have started to come in regarding the Killian 1970 50th Reunion scheduled for May 15 and 16, 2020, at the Miami Dadeland Marriott. The Planning Committee is writing to you to let you know what we are doing due to this.
The Planning Committee appreciates your understanding of the fact that in order to secure a location for the reunion, we had to secure a contract with the Marriott for a minimum of 80 people to attend our Saturday, May 16, 2020 main event, as well as 56 room nights to secure the excellent room rate that was negotiated. Those of us who signed the contracts are individually and financially obligated to meet the minimums which include: $10,000 for room bookings and $5,200 for the catering contract for Saturday night, May 16, 2020. Additionally, four Cougars fronted the initial $2,000 seed money to get the ball rolling for our reunion.
Given that the CDC has issued a recommendation that events of 50 or more people be postponed for the next eight weeks and the continuing recommendations of health experts, we notified the Marriott on Friday, March 13, 2020, in writing, that we needed to reschedule the reunion. We are working with the Marriott on fall dates in 2020, or later.
We regret any hardship that a postponement will have on anyone. We know that you appreciate that our primary concern is the health, safety and welfare of the Killian Class of 1970. For those of you who have already sent in money for the Saturday, May 16 event, and have concerns, please contact Robin Ayers Truba directly via email at: welvnoles@aol.com.
Thank you for your patience and consideration while we work through this together.
Be safe.
